Abhishek Sharma, who scored a 28-hundred in 2024 against Meghalaya. With this knock, Urvil Patel now owns three centuries in T20 cricket, one off 28 balls, another off 36 balls in last year’s SMAT, and now this 31-ball masterpiece.
His consistent batting efforts and such record-breaking knocks have helped him get a position in the Chennai Super Kings IPL squad. His repetitive performances show his potential as a top-order hitter who possesses the potential to play long and hit hard from the start of the powerplay in T20 formats. With this, his form has strengthened his position for both Gujarat and CSK.
The Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy began in a trending fashion with one of the biggest individual performances of the season. On the opening day of the SMAT 2025-26, Urvil Patel took centre stage and smashed a sensational hundred against Services in Hyderabad.
The CSK batter and the Gujarat captain already hold the record for the fastest centurion of the tournament, where he earlier scored a 28-ball hundred alongside Abhishek Sharma. Now, with the new record, he also holds the second-fastest SMAT century in tournament history, and also by an Indian batter. The match was part of the Elite group schedule, and Urvil turned into a one-sided chase with his explosive batting.
Batting first, Services finished at 182/9 and then asked Gujarat to chase on in 20 overs. Urvil opened for the team and began attacking from the first over. His batting stayed aggressive and the same throughout the innings, which stood out and made him a new record in SMAT history.
How has Urvil Patel reached the 31-Ball Hundred?
Urvil Patel reached his hundred in only 31 balls while staying unbeaten in the match against Services on Wednesday. He scored 119 from just 37 deliveries, where he smashed a total of 12 fours and 10 sixes, building a 174-run partnership with Aarya Desai, who handled the other end of the chase.
Gujarat started strong and chased down the target in just 12.3 overs. This knock added to his list of hundreds in domestic cricket, which makes him a player to look out for the whole of the tournament.
Ahead of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, he was retained by CSK for IPL 2026 after showing a strike rate of over 200 in IPL 2025. With the ability to score tightly and quickly in powerplay, Urvil Patel’s SMAT record will be remembered for long and will also make him an important top-order option for the upcoming IPL season.

This Urvil Patel SMAT hundred is not the first time he has delivered a blazing century. Earlier on November 27, 2024, he scored a 28-ball hundred against Tripura, which made him the joint fastest Indian to reach a T20 hundred.
