10. World Test Championship- South Africa (2025)
South Africa broke through for an ICC men’s title after years of waiting when they beat Australia in the 2025 World Test Championship Final at Lord’s. The South Africans, chasing 282 to win, claimed a five-wicket win before lunch on the fourth morning with Kyle Verreynne hitting the winning runs. Aiden Markram scored an unforgettable knock of 136 not out while skipper Temba Bavuma contributed with a match winning support-role in the form of 66*, as the two stitched together a formidable stand that took their side through to safety. This victory is South Africa’s first ICC senior men’s title since 1998 and one of their most memorable Test wins.
There were plenty of turns in the match. Rabada’s blistering second innings return of 5 for 51 polished off Australia for 212 but Pat Cummins, with career-best figures of 6 for 28, kept the Proteas to only 138. Australia collapsed once more in the second innings, slipping to 73 for 7 before Starc (58*) and Carey (43) resisted to set a target of 282. Although they stumbled at the start, South Africa displayed a coolness to complete the chase with so much ease and in process not only recorded joint second-highest successful fourth-innings pursuit at Lord’s but also laid their hands on the prestigious WTC mace.
9. Champions Trophy – India (2025)
The final India defeated New Zealand by four wickets to clinch their third ICC Champions Trophy title at Dubai. After being set the target of 252 runs, the Men in Blue crossed the line with an over to spare and that too by showcasing composure under pressure. Earlier, the bowlers paved the way after Kuldeep Yadav and Varun Chakravarthy claimed two wickets each while Jadeja and Shami added important breakthroughs.
New Zealand made 251 for 7, Daryl Mitchell (63) and Michael Bracewell (53) leading their innings. In response India were led up top by captain Rohit Sharma’s fluent 76. Shreyas Iyer chipped in with a fluent 48, and KL Rahul’s calm unbeaten 34 made certain that India executed their task with ease. The victory had given India support two ICC title in as many years, adding more feathers to their cap which already sported two ODI World Cup victories
8. T20 World Cup – India (2024)
India finally ended their ICC finals as they defeated South Africa in the T20 World Cup 2024 final in Barbados. Rohit Sharma’s men beat the Proteas by 7 runs in the final to win their second T20 World Cup.
Virat Kohli (76) and Axar Patel (47) produced a few good knocks but it was never going to be enough after India set Australia their best total, 176 in a T20 World Cup final. And while South Africa looked to be coasting home for an easy win, Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya and Arshdeep Singh pulled it back quite well for Team India with the ball. Virat Kohli was declared the man of the final and Jasprit Bumrah would be named Player of the tournament for his 15 wickets in the tournament.
7. ICC World Cup – Australia (2023)
Pat Cummins and Australia maintained their fairytale in 2023 as they clinched the ICC Men’s World Cup for a record sixth time by beating India, once more. In Ahmedabad was pretty packed house and one of the most attended and viewed World Cup finals, Australia got the better of India by six wickets.
Despite a good start with the bat, India lost captain Rohit Sharma and then just went on losing wickets. The most they could score in the first innings was 240 and though Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami fought hard, Travis Head’s brilliant ton (137) took Australia over the line. Head was named the player of the match in consecutive ICC Finals.
6. World Test Championship – Australia (2023)
India once again failed to get their hands on an ICC trophy since 2013 as (Pat Cummins led) Australia thrashed India by 209 runs. The hosts posted a huge 469 in the first innings, with Steve Smith and Travis Head person scoring tons for the Aussies.
The first-inning deficit was too much for India who could only manage 296 in response and Australia cranked up the pressure with 270 for good measure in the second innings. Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane made starts but India never came within reach of the total and succumbed to the inevitable defeat. This victory saw Josh Hazlewood, David Warner, Pat Cummins, Steve Smith and Mitchell Starc become the only players to one all ICC
5. T20 World Cup – England (2022)
England won their second T20 World Cup in 2022, defeating Pakistan by five wickets in the final. The win was set up by the bowlers in restricting Pakistan to 137, with Sam Curran claiming a brilliant spell of 3 for 22.
But although he was named player of the match, it was to be Steyn’s day in claiming 13 overall wickets that saw him win the player of the tournament award. Pursuing a low score, England were sensible throughout the chase and eased to victory in plenty of time to lift their prize. Their third ICC title overall was another golden chapter in their T20 cricket history.
4. T20 World Cup- Australia (2021)
Hilariously, Australia established its authority and its value once more on the night of a 2021 T20 World Cup final. 3. World Test Championship- New Zealand (2021)
I do fear, however, that New Zealand have peaked on the big stage after winning their first ever world title in cricket when they beat India at last year’s World Test Championship Final. The game took place at the Rose Bowl, in Southampton, from 18 to 23 June with Kane Williamson leading his team to a convincing eight-wicket victory. Kyle Jamieson was at the front of that, striking with five wickets for 31 in the first innings and two more in the second.
He was also adjudged the player of the match for his match-winning spell. New Zealand, needing just a modest target to chase in the fourth innings, kept their cool during the run chase and clinched the game to claim prize money and the inaugural World Test Championship mace. It was a proud moment for the Blackcaps turning out as one of the most competitive sides in world cricket.
2. ICC World Cup- England (2019)
The 2019 Cricket World Cup final at Lord’s on 14 July emerged as one of the most dramatic games in the history of cricket. England and New Zealand even ended with the same in their innings, while the Super Over also finished level. The post-match was tied and the victor was to be determined by the boundary count rule.
England won, claiming their inaugural ODI World Cup trophy. The dramatic final is considered one of the most remarkable moments in cricket as England emerged champions on home soil following an epic battle.
1. Champions Trophy- Pakistan (2017)
The 2017 ICC Champions Trophy final adorned London’s iconic venue The Oval in one of the most inspiring encounters pitting India against Pakistan, and it also ranks among the best matches involving both teams. Opting to bat, Pakistan set a solid total with Fakhar Zaman leading the charge. He also went on to receive the player of the match award for his fabulous 100.
In response, India succumbed under the pressure and were bundled out in less than 31 overs. Pakistan celebrate winning the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy Lahore-born Pakistan won a crushing victory by 180 runs, delivering their first ever Champions Trophy success and writing one of the most remarkable chapters in their cricketing history.
