Indian T20 opener Abhishek Sharma has been consistently performing well for the Indian team and his IPL franchise, Sunrisers Hyderabad. Today, he continued his impressive form playing for his team, Punjab, in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) 2025. On Sunday, November 30, Punjab and Bengal played an Elite Group C match, and Punjab won the toss and elected to bat.
Opening the innings, Abhishek Sharma and Prabhsimran Singh gave the team a quick start and looked aggressive from the beginning. Early on, Abhishek Sharma equalled his mentor Yuvraj Singh’s record of scoring a half-century in 12 balls. But he wasn’t going to stop there and continued to play well, and soon completed his 32-ball century.
Prabhsimran Singh also supported him from the other end, and together they made a big partnership of 205 runs in 12.3 overs for the first wicket. After this, Prabhsimran was out after scoring 70 runs in 35 balls.
However, even after losing the opening partnership, there was no slowdown in the Punjab innings. Ramandeep Singh and Sanvir Singh also played well, contributing 39 runs in 15 balls and 22 runs in 9 balls, respectively. With this, Punjab achieved a huge total of 310 runs in 20 overs.
Abhishek Sharma 32-ball century
Abhishek Sharma was the biggest contributor to Punjab’s huge total, scoring 148 runs in 52 balls, including 16 sixes and eight fours, while maintaining a strike rate of over 284. Despite having experienced bowlers, Bengal bowled disappointingly. Mohammed Shami took one wicket for 61 runs in four overs, while Akash Deep took two wickets for 55 runs. None of their bowlers had an economy rate of less than 13.
Although Abhishek Sharma could not break his own record of scoring a 28-ball century against Meghalaya in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024, with this century, he has definitely shared the fourth place with Rishabh Pant and Vaibhav Suryavanshi for the 32-ball fastest century. Apart from this, Abhishek Sharma’s name has now appeared twice in the top 5 fastest Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy centuries.
Such excellent performance from Abhishek will definitely be good news for Team India and Sunrisers Hyderabad. Team India is going to play the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 next year. Sharma will definitely be a part of the T20 World Cup squad, and with such excellent form, he is capable of making a good contribution to the team. While IPL 2026 will also be played soon after, Abhishek will be seen playing for his team, Sunrisers Hyderabad, who recently retained him for Rs 14 crore.
