Harjas Singh, a 20-year-old Australian cricketer of Indian origin, achieved a historic feat by scoring a triple century in a 50-over game. He scored 314 runs off just 141 balls in a Sydney Grade Cricket match while playing for Western Suburbs against Sydney Cricket Club at Pratten Park. His innings was explosive and record-breaking, including 35 sixes and 14 fours. This score is the third-highest individual score in Sydney’s first-class cricket history and the highest limited-overs score in first-class premier cricket anywhere in Australia. His brilliant innings played a crucial role in helping his team secure a big victory.
Unbelievable performance by Harjas Singh
Former Australia under-19 batsman Harjas Singh, who was part of the World Cup-winning team in South Africa last year, produced an exceptional performance for Western Suburbs in Sydney Grade Cricket on Saturday, scoring 314 runs off 141 balls with the help of 35 sixes. The match was available to watch on YouTube via a single-camera stream. There was cheering when Singh reached his triple century with a six off left-arm spinner Tom Mullen.
In the 11th over, Singh walked into the crease at No. 3. He took four balls after a cautious start, but after getting set, he burst into action. Singh reached his century in the 35th over off 74 balls, then smashed 214 off the next 67. Western Suburbs posted a massive 483-5 in 50 overs and won the match by 196 runs. Singh’s innings was so impressive that no other teammate scored more than 37 runs in that innings.
This match was briefly an anomaly in the scoring available online. His final score confirmed his third-place position on the all-time list in New South Wales premier first-class history, following Victor Trumper’s 335 in 1903 and Phil Jaques’ 321 in 2007. This is the highest limited-overs score in first-grade premier cricket anywhere in Australia.
Harjas Singh’s hard work paid off
The innings attracted widespread attention, with the spectators struggling to keep up with the barrage of sixes and the cricket media hailing Singh as a rising star. “It’s something I’m quite proud of because I’ve worked very hard on my power-hitting in the off-season, and to have it come through today was quite special,” Singh told Fox Cricket after the match.
This innings also represented a turning point in the player’s career. Even though Singh scored the most runs (55) in the under-19 World Cup final against India, NSW did not offer him a rookie contract. He reached a maiden century in his Youth Test against England. Singh is struggling to maintain concentration, even though many of his younger teammates have already moved on to state cricket. But after this incredible performance, his career is definitely going to take a new direction.
