A 22-years long wait ended for the Mohun Bagan Super Giant as they finally lifted the coveted IFA Shield on Saturday, October 19, 2025. They beat their arch-rivals East Bengal FC in the final match held at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan (VYBK), also known as Salt Lake Stadium.
IFA Shield is one of the most prestigious football trophies in India. Mohun Bagan is the 2nd most successful team in the competition history but has gone 22 years without a trophy.
On Sunday, the Green and Maroon side beat the most successful side in the competition’s history East Bengal (29 times champions) in a penalty shootout to finally end the Shield drought.

IFA Shield Winners List
In this article, we will take a look at all the IFA Shield Winners List since the year 2000.
2000 – East Bengal
East Bengal FC won the last IFA Shield of the last century in 2000. The Red and Gold brigade beat their rivals Mohun Bagan Athletic Club in the final match on 16 September, 2000. Chandan Das gave East Bengal the lead in the 26th minute before Jose Ramirez Barreto equalized in the 78th minute. But the Reds won the match in a penalty shootout that ended 4-1 favour of East Bengal. It was their 25th time winning the tournament.
2001 – East Bengal
East Bengal also began the 21st century retaining their crown, beating Brazilian side Palmeiras’ B team. It was a controversial match that was abandoned after 35 minutes of play. The Brazilian side started a brawl on the field while their fans started throwing chairs at the pitch eventually. Palmeiras B was disqualified from the tournament and East Bengal were crowned the champions for the 26th time.
2002- East Bengal
The Red and Gold brigade made it three in a row and continued their dominance in the tournament. They won their 27th IFA Shield crown in 2002 when they beat Goan club Churchill Brothers FC 5-4 in the penalty shootout after the game ended 0-0 at full time.
2003 – Mohun Bagan
The year 2003 was the last time that Mohun Bagan won the IFA Shield trophy. Once again they played their noisy neighbours East Bengal in the final match. It was a great match over the 90 minutes and the extra-time, but still ended 0-0. In the penalty shootout, the Green and Maroon side prevailed as they won 5-3. This was their 20th IFA Shield title.
2004 – Finance and Revenue Club of Myanmar
In 2004, the Finance and Revenue club of Myanmar won the IFA Shield. As it is an invitational tournament, teams from foreign nations are also allowed to participate on an invitation basis. And in 2004, the Myanmar club, now known as Mountain Lion FC, beat Mohun Bagan in the penalty shootout. The game ended 1-1 while the Myanmar side won 4-2 in a shootout.
2005 – Bayern Munich 2
In the year 2005, Germany heavyweight club Bayern Munich were invited to participate in the competition. They sent their B team to participate in the tournament, which they eventually won. They won the final match 5-1 against Eveready, now known as United Sports Club.
2006 – Mahindra United
Mahindra Group’s Mahindra United won their first IFA Shield crown in the year 2006. Nicknamed the ‘Jeepmen’ they were victorious by 1-0 in a tightly contested affair against Mohun Bagan.
2007 – Tournament was not held
2008 – Mahindra United
Despite the tournament not being held in 2007, Mahindra United retained their title in the year 2008. This time, the ‘Jeepmen’ beat the Cape Town, South Africa based Santos Football Club in the final. It was a 3-1 victory in favour of the United side, who registered their 2nd ever Shield crown.
2009 – Churchill Brothers
After failing in the previous editions, the Goan club Churchill Brothers had their long wait come to an end in 2009 as they lifted their first ever IFA Shield trophy. They beat Mohun Bagan 2-0 in the final match.
2010 – Tournament was not held
2011 – Churchill Brothers
Just like the Mahindra United, Churchill Brothers have had to wait an extra year to defend their title, and they successfully did so. In 2011, it was the repeat of the 2009 final as Churchill faced off against Mohun Bagan that the Goan side eventually won 2-1 to win their 2nd Shield.
2012 – East Bengal
East Bengal FC finally had their 10 years wait come to end to get their hands on the IFA Shield in 2012 under English coach Trevor James Morgan. In the final match, they beat Prayag United (now United Sports Club, formerly Eveready) 4-2 on penalties after the normal time and extra-time ended in a 0-0 draw.
2013 – Prayag United
After losing in the penalty shootout to East Bengal FC in 2012, they finally got revenge 12 months later by winning the 2013 IFA Shield. In-fact, they beat East Bengal 1-0 in the final match that year. This was their first Shield title and was later renamed as United Sports Club.
2014 – Mohammedan SC
In the year 2014, Mohammedan Sporting Club had a more than 40 years long wait come to an end as Kolkata’s third biggest club finally won their 6th IFA Shield in 2014 for the first time after 1971. In the final match, they beat Bangladesh’s Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi club 4-3 in the penalty shootout after the normal time and extra-time ended 1-1.
2015 – United SC U19
After 2015 and onwards, the IFA Shield was played as the U19 youth football tournament. The first U19 edition of the tournament was won by the United Sports Club U19 side. They beat the East Bengal U19 in the final match 2-1 to register their 2nd crown after the 2013 success as Prayag United.
2016 – Tata Football Academy
Tata Football Academy (TFA) is one of the most renowned football academies in India. With the IFA Shield played as a youth tournament since 2015, it allowed TFA to participate in the tournament. And in 2016, they were victorious in a thrilling clash against the All India Football Federation (AIFF) U19. The game was 2-2 in the extra-time the AIFF U19’s Lalrinzuala scored an own-goal in the 100th minute to hand a 3-2 victory to TFA.
2017 – Pune City U19
In the year 2017, the Pune City U19 side joined the party as they became the later outfit to win the IFA Shield trophy. In the final match, they beat Mohun Bagan Sail Academy 3-0 on 11 June, 2017.
2018 – East Bengal U19
The 2018 IFA Shield was the last time that the tournament was played as a youth tournament. And this time, East Bengal FC secured their 29th IFA Shield crown as their U19 outfit beat Mohun Bagan Sail Academy 4-2 in the penalty shootout after the game had ended 1-1 after the extra-time. Sourav Das for Mohun Bagan and Dip Saha for East Bengal were the goal scorers.
2019 – Tournament was not held
2020 – Real Kashmir
After a year off in 2019, the IFA Shield reverted back to the senior football tournament. And it was Real Kashmir FC who were victorious in the tournament. Their rise in the Indian football circuit was much talked about and they won the Shield in their first time participating in the tournament. They beat George Telegraph in the final 2-1. The two goals for them were scored by Lukman Adefemi and Mason Robertson.
2021- Real Kashmir
Real Kashmir was back for the 2021 edition of the tournament with the intention to retain their crown, and they very well did that. In the 2021 final match, they beat another up and coming Indian football club Sreenidi Deccan FC 2-1 to retain their IFA Shield. David Castañeda gave the advantage to Sreenidi in the 30th minute before Fran González scored the equaliser in the 90+3 minute. Finally, an own goal from Sreenidi’s Mohamed Awal in the 100th minute of extra-time was decisive as Real Kashmir retained.

2024 – Tournament was not held
2025 – Mohun Bagan
The IFA Shield was on hiatus for three years in 2022, 2023 and 2024. Finally the tournament was held in 2025 and it was the Green and Maroon outfit Mohun Bagan Super Giant who were victorious beating their arch-rivals East Bengal FC in the Final. East Bengal got the lead in the 36th minute when Hamid Ahadad scored for the Red and Gold brigade just a few minutes after Mohun Bagan’s Jason Cummings skied a penalty.
However, in the added time of the first-half, Mohun Bagan’s midfielder Apuia scored the equaliser goal. The game remained competitive and ended 1-1 after extra-time, taking it to the penalty shootout. Finally the Green and Maroon won the shootout 5-4 after East Bengal’s Jay Gupta penalty was saved by Mohun Bagan keeper Vishal Kaith. This was Mohun Bagan’s 21st IFA Shield glory and for the first time after 2003, when they also beat East Bengal in the final.
