How the IPL 2026 Trade Window Works?

There are various fundamentals to be updated with in-regards to the IPL 2026 trade window news.

  • Timeline: The IPL trade window 2026 has already opened within a month of the IPL 2025 season final match. The window will remain open until a week before the IPL 2026 player auction. A second IPL 2026 trade window opens instantly after the conclusion of the auction. The second window will remain open until a month before the first match of the IPL 2026 season.
  • IPL 2026 Trade Types:
    • All-Cash Trade: An all-cash trade deal involves the buying team paying an agreed transfer fee to the selling team. The player’s salary counts towards the team’s total purse.
    • Player Swap: This is a direct player-to-player swap between two teams. Both the teams’ purse is then adjusted depending on the players’ salary.
  • BCCI Clearance: After a deal is agreed between all parties, including the players, the trade deal then needs to be approved by the IPL Governing Council.
  • Player Consent: The concerned player’s consent for the trade deal is important. A franchise cannot trade a player if the player is not interested.

IPL 2026 Trade Players List

Now that you know all the fundamentals of how an IPL trade window 2026 deal works, let’s now take a look at the IPL 2026 trade players list.

Sanju Samson IPL 2026 Trade News

The Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson has been linked with a move away from the 2008 champions throughout the IPL 2026 trade window. The wicketkeeper-batter has been linked with a move to the likes of Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Mumbai Indians (MI), Delhi Capitals (DC) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).

CSK has been targeting Samson as the replacement for the veteran CSK wicketkeeper MS Dhoni. However, at the end of October, the rumours had faded out with Delhi Capitals and KKR still in the fray. According to reports Delhi Capitals want to bring Sanju Samson as a replacement for Rahul who might join KKR. On the other hand, if KKR fails to get Rahul to join them, then Sanju Samson is going to be their priority.

In case none of these deals materializes, then Sanju Samson will definitely feature in the IPL 2026 Auction as there is 97-98% likelihood of him leaving Rajasthan Royals (RR) after his reported fall-out with the RR management during the IPL 2025 season.
