Ravichandran Ashwin has signed a 9 Crore Indian rupees deal with Sydney Thunder for two Big Bash League (BBL) seasons. After Unmukt Chand, Ashwin will become the second Indian cricketer to feature in the BBL, but more importantly, he is the first-ever capped Indian player to join the league. Ashwin has agreed to a two-year contract with Sydney Thunder, marking a new chapter in his career after his retirement from the IPL and international cricket.
Ashwin Price in the Big Bash League (BBL)
Even though the official announcement about the price has not been confirmed yet, some reports suggest that R. Ashwin has signed a two-year deal worth 9 crore rupees with the Sydney Thunder in the BBL.
According to reports, before finalising the deal, Cricket Australia’s CEO personally spoke to Ashwin about his availability. Interestingly, four BBL teams were in the race to sign the Indian legend. However, Sydney Thunder made the best offer, which convinced Ashwin to commit to the franchise. This move also explains why Ashwin decided to retire from both the Indian Premier League (IPL) and international cricket earlier this year, paving the way for him to take part in global leagues like the BBL and ILT20.
Shadab and Ashwin in Same Team
Ashwin will also enter the ILT20 auction, where his base price is the highest, showing his demand in franchise cricket. The tournament begins on December 2. We are waiting for the BBL showdown between the Sydney Thunder and Sydney Sixers, where Ashwin will face none other than Babar Azam, who will also participate in the league. This clash of superstars promises to be one of the highlights of the BBL 2025-26 season. Pakistani all-rounder Shadab Khan will be playing alongside Ravi Ashwin, marking the first time in 15 years that Indian and Pakistani players will feature together in the same team.
