India’s campaign in the tournament has been far from convincing, and bowling coach Morne Morkel openly admitted it after the narrow win against Sri Lanka. Speaking after the game, Morkel said, “I don’t think we’ve played a complete game in this tournament so far. After every game, we discuss areas for improvement. When under pressure, we need to get sharper.”
India managed to edge past Sri Lanka despite a sloppy bowling display, but the concerns in execution and clarity remain. Morkel pointed out that while this team is capable of grinding out results and winning “ugly” matches, the focus must shift to making better decisions under pressure.
A major talking point from the Sri Lanka match was the physical condition of Hardik Pandya and Abhishek Sharma. Both suffered cramps during the game, raising worries about their availability. However, Morkel downplayed any serious injury concerns.
India’s Injury Concerns Ahead of Asia Cup 2025 Final
“Hardik will be assessed tonight and tomorrow morning, and we’ll make a call on that. But both of them were just down with cramps during the game. Abhishek is fine,” he said, confirming that Abhishek is fully fit for the next clash. Hardik’s situation will be reviewed further, but the signs suggest it is not a long-term issue.
On the bowling front, India has adopted a more aggressive strategy with the new ball, but the challenge has been execution in tough conditions. “As a bowling attack, we want to go that aggressive route and get wickets. There hasn’t been a lot of swing upfront… The margin for error is quite small with the new ball,” Morkel explained.
India will play the final against Pakistan on Sunday, 28th September 2025, where both Hardik Pandya and Abhishek Sharma will be two crucial players in the squad.
