History & Evolution
The Hundred was launched in 2021 by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) as a brand new format. Aimed at making cricket more accessible and appealing to a broader audience, it replaces the traditional six-ball overs with sets of 5 or 10 balls. Matches last exactly 100 balls per team and are timed to fit into a tight 2.5-hour broadcast window, featuring city-based franchises and gender-equal doubleheaders.
